  • I have been a Consultant Neurologist since 1997

Neurology is that branch of medicine which deals with symptoms, disorders of the brain, spinal cord & peripheral nerves, as well as some disorders of muscles. Disorders of the nervous system can cause symptoms which masquerade as symptoms from other organs such as the bladder, the skin & the gastrointestinal tract, so neurologists are often asked for an opinion by colleagues in other medical specialties.

There are a handful of common neurological conditions such as multiple sclerosis, epilepsy, Parkinson’s disease, stroke, peripheral neuropathy and migraine. There are also hundreds of rare neurological conditions which make the speciality a challenge. Neurology is one speciality where good old-fashioned clinical skills can play a decisive role in diagnosis & Neurologists are often able to make very precise diagnoses based on the history & examination, without the assistance of scans and other investigations. However, we usually use these tools to confirm our findings.

I have been a Consultant Neurologist since 1997 & I have special interests in sleep disorders (such as narcolepsy & asleep apnoea), movement disorders (such as Parkinson’s disease & dystonia) and in inflammatory disorders of the nervous system (such as multiple sclerosis & inflammatory neuropathies).

I work for the NHS hospitals in Brighton, Haywards Heath and Worthing & I run two Private Clinics in Hove and in Worthing.
